Sean Higgins, the driver responsible for the tragic deaths of NCAA champion with Boston College, Calgary Flames and most recently Calgary Columbus Blue Jackets star Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew Gaudreau, has made a statement following the accident.

During a court hearing, Higgins appeared frustrated when he learned he would be held in jail until next week due to the holiday weekend.

So, I'm here until Thursday?" he asked the judge, letting out a heavy sigh when the extended holding period was explained.

Higgins, accused of driving under the influence, expressed annoyance at being held in jail, but his behavior at the scene tells a different story.

According to the criminal complaint, when the officers arrived, they detected a strong smell of alcohol on Higgins' breath. He admitted to drinking "five to six beers" before getting behind the wheel.

Higgins reportedly became impatient and reckless, believing another car was trying to block his way.

The 42 year-old tried to pass a slower-moving sedan and SUV by moving into the southbound lanes. After passing the sedan, he attempted to re-enter the northbound lanes. The SUV ahead of him moved into the center of the road to safely pass the Gaudreau duo who were biking on the right side of the road.

Higgins, however, decided to try and pass the car on the right side. In doing so, he hit the brothers from behind, causing the collision that resulted in the fatal tragedy.

Our thoughts are with the Gaudreau family during this incredibly difficult time.
