The Playoffs are underway in on Russian hockey league but sadly the season has ended for one team after a heartbreaking overtime loss.

Russian Team Eliminated After Goalie Makes 124 Saves

The game went to the fifth overtime period before either team scored. Both goalies carried shutouts through the first seven periods of play. That being said, SKA Neva, SKA St. Petersburg's VHL affiliate was heavily outplayed in the game as they gave up 125 shots in the contest to their own 71. For goalie Artemi Pleshkov, it was a bittersweet performance as he set a new world record for saves in a game in the loss.

Initially, Pleshkov was given credit for 125 saves, but the league later reviewed the total and took one shot away, giving the 5'10" goaltender credit for 124 saves on 125 shots.

For those wondering, that is a WORLD RECORD for saves in a game ‼️🥅

Alexander Borodulya made 107 saves in the Belarussian Extraliga

Joonas Korpisalo 85 saves in the #NHL

Due to his size, Pleshkov will likely never play in the NHL, but he looks poised to have a successful KHL career. Hopefully he will look back at this game as a major accomplishment. After all, he can't score goals himself so he did literally everything he could do in the loss.
