Michel Bergeron didn't mince words when describing the decision made by the colorful John Tortorella regarding Sean Couturier. The new captain of the Flyers was left out on Tuesday, even though he was perfectly healthy. The veteran coach decided that Couturier did not fit into any of the team's four lines based in Philadelphia. Even though the Flyers won the game and Tortorella's decision ultimately paid off, the situation did not sit well with Michel Bergeron. In a statement on TVA Sports yesterday, the former Nordiques coach sharply criticized John Tortorella, suggesting along the way that he had biases against Quebecers and Francophones: In the case of Tortorella, I remember the stories with André Roy, with Pierre-Luc Dubois, with Anthony Duclair, now it's Sean Couturier and they all have something in common... They are all Quebecers/Francophones. Another thing that comes to my mind is Daniel Brière, who has just been appointed as the general manager of the Philadelphia Flyers. I wonder how much Tortorella respects Daniel Brière... By making his decision, he (Tortorella) thinks he's the boss...
