A new report has surfaced that Steve Yzerman, General Manager of the Detroit Red Wings, has just blocked a massive potential trade in Detroit.

Elliotte Friedman Reveals Yzerman Not Keen On Guentzel Trade

The Detroit Red Wings are clearly trying to make a push this season to be competitive come the playoffs, and that means looking to acquire players at the deadline. They have obviously made moves earlier this season in bringing in Patrick Kane, and now there has been speculation that the Red Wings could be looking at Jake Guentzel of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

However, Elliotte Friedman revealed that General Manager Steve Yzerman isn't so keen on Guentzel, as he requires a long extension which Yzerman isn't a fan of.

«It fits [in Detroit], but it's not like Yzerman to give players like that seven-year extensions.»

Yzerman Focused on Extending Other Key Red Wings Players

The Red Wings have been developing an important foundation in their rebuild, and now have to focus on retaining their current group if they want their success to continue long-term. Of those players that need to be extended are Moritz Seider and Lucas Raymond who will both need extensions this summer.

Luckily for Red Wings Fans, they still have an incredible chance at making the playoffs according to Money Puck. We will see how the remainder of the season plays out, and if Detroit adds more firepower at the deadline.
