Zach Hyman Reveals He Never Wanted To Leave Toronto Maple Leafs

Edmonton Oilers forward Zach Hyman revealed that he never wanted to leave the Toronto Maple Leafs. The comment comes ahead of the Oiler's matchup against the Leafs tonight in Toronto.

Hyman opens up about past with Toronto Maple Leafs

The Oilers forward had a few things to say about his former club as he prepared to take them on tonight, going against a hostile Toronto crowd. Apparently the fans should not have any hard feelings towards him for leaving though as that was not his idea. Former Maple Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas apparently saw no reason to bring Hyman back after the 2020-21 season.




The decision will be one that haunts Dubas and the Maple Leafs for a long time to come. Since joining the Oilers, Hyman has developed into one of the most productive goal-scoring wingers in the entire NHL. He has 111 goals in 221 games with the Oilers so far, including 48 in just 66 games this year.




NHL insider Pierre Lebrun believes the Oilers signing Hyman was one of the best moves in recent NHL history. Hyman has four years left on his contract after this one, with just a 5.5 million dollar cap hit. That makes him one of the best value signings in free agency in the last decade.
