With just over 24 hours until NHL Free Agency the Tampa Bay Lightning have made a splash by trading for forward Jake Guentzel from the Carolina Hurricanes.

For days now there had been reports of the Tampa Bay Lightning's interest in Jake Guentzel. On day 2 of the NHL Draft, the Lightning traded Mikhail Sergachev and Tanner Jeannot in a salary cap-clearing move.
With those moves, everyone in the hockey world knew the Lightning were planning to make a big move. Today that move was made as they have traded a 3rd round pick to the Carolina Hurricanes for the rights to Jake Guentzel.
#GoBolts acquire the rights to Jake Guentzel from #Canes in exchange for a 2025 3rd Rd Pick.

Now the Tampa Bay Lightning will get to work on extending the upcoming free agent before Monday's free agency period begins. This is a huge upgrade up front for the Lightning who are expected to let Steven Stamkos walk but now bring in a younger replacement.
