Better late than never. A few years ago, the Arizona Coyotes threw Shane Doan's retired number banner into a dumpster after leaving Gil River Arena, this fan took it and returned it to Shane tonight in Mullet Arena.

The Coyotes are playing their final game ever before moving to Salt Lake City, Utah.

Doan, the heart and soul of the Coyotes for over two decades, remains optimistic about hockey's future in Arizona, despite the team's relocation. He's not just any hockey legend; he's a proud dad watching his son, Josh, carve his own path in the NHL and for a few weeks, in the valley.

From the Jr. Coyotes to the Arizona State Sun Devils to the Tucson Roadrunners and to these Yotes, Josh has climbed the ladder and who knows, maybe one day, we'll see his number up there too—albeit in Utah.

It's like father like son though. Shane's final season was in Winnipeg before the franchise relocated to Arizona and now, Josh will be forced to move after one season in the dessert.

Doan's legacy with the Coyotes is unmatched. No. 19 skated in the dessert from 1996-2017. He's not only the franchise's all-time leader in pretty much every category but also winners of prestigious awards like the King Clancy and the Mark Messier Leadership Award. He was a two time all-star (2004, 2009) and was captain from 2003-17.

On the heels of his banner reunion, he gets to see Josh, who chose his dad's number backwards #91, live the dessert dream.
It was a bittersweet moment before the Coyotes bid farewell to the desert.
