During his remarks, McDavid went out of his way to take a subtle shot at Matthews and the Maple Leafs organization.
Connor McDavid Takes A Major Shot At The Toronto Maple Leafs
During his media availability today McDavid spoke about the exciting opportunity to play the Maple Leafs. McDavid opened his thoughts by talking about how important the game is for both clubs who feel they should and can play better as the second half of the NHL season embarks. I don't think they love their game right now either. They're looking to score some goals & we're looking to stop giving up chances. Be a good test for both sides. While he is excited McDavid made sure to take a dig at the Toronto Maple Leafs and the NHL for the 7 pm Eastern start time. With the game being in Edmonton generally, the game would be much later but the appeal of the matchup between McDavid and Matthews pushes the game earlier and likely to the disadvantage of the Oilers. We get the five o'clock start time they come into our building and we are forced to change our schedule around.

The quote from McDavid got a good chuckle from the media after his light-hearted dig at the Leafs and the NHL. Despite the unusual start time McDavid and the Oilers will likely be ready to go and motivated to come home with a big win against their cross-conference rival.
