Sean Avery was one of the NHL's biggest personalities throughout his 10 years in the league, and now he's given a very Sean Avery like answer to a big question.

The NHL has seen some incredible personalities and controversial players throughout its history, but few in the past two decades have made an impact like Sean Avery. After his playing career came to an end, the former enforcer naturally slid into a career as a media personality, and it's safe to say that he's not getting any less controversial.

When a reporter was putting together a story about players first big purchases with their first big paycheque, out of all the answers, Avery's should be the least surprising;

"An ounce of mushrooms"

Back in 2001 when he broke in with the Detroit Red Wings, this would have been the norm, but in 2024, it's safe to say that if a player answered like this, they would be hearing from the league. Times have changed however, and we won't see another player like Avery for a long time, with hist 257 penalty minutes in a single season in 2005 being the most in the league in the past 20 years.

Over 580 games between Detroit, LA and New York, Avery made a massive impact on and off the ice, and not always for a good reason, and now it appears he's in the perfect role as a media personality to continue making fantastic hockey content that some love, and some unsurprisingly hate.
