Connor McDavid was awarded a prestigious trophy after the Stanley Cup Finals, and now we officially know why he didn't come out to accept it.

The Stanley Cup Finals were a thrilling display of the highs and the lows and the excitement that only hockey can bring, and in the end, the Edmonton Oilers attempted comeback from a 3-0 deficit fell short in a dramatic Game 7. Despite the loss, it was Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid that took home the prestigious Conn Smythe Trophy, given every year to the Stanley Cup Playoffs MVP.
However, controversy followed, as McDavid was nowhere to be seen when Commissioner Gary Bettman made the announcement on the ice, prompting backlash from many. Now, Insider Elliotte Friedman has revealed the official reason why the Oilers captain didn't accept the award.
There was a lot of debate about Connor McDavid not coming on-ice for the Conn Smythe Trophy presentation. Apparently, he did agree to do it, but before it was presented, he went into the Oilers room to address his teammates. That was so emotional he either didn't want to leave or was in no headspace to leave.

Given the reasoning, it makes complete sense as a leader wants to be there with his team, but the NHL should have been aware of this when they gave out the trophy to a member of the losing team. Ultimately, it may not be remembered as a mark against McDavid, and given everything that their team went through to get to that point, it's understandable why he wanted to be with his team.
