The Edmonton Oilers didn't match two huge offer sheets for two young players recently, and now Connor Brown's contract has been cited as a huge reason. Over the past few weeks, the NHL world has been buzzing after the sensational offer sheets for Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway of the Edmonton Oilers, with the team unfortunately not able to match the deals due to the lack of financial flexibility that comes with being a Stanley Cup contender. While there are many reasons for this, one fan has recently pointed out that Connor Brown's contract could be a huge reason for them being handcuffed in negotiations with their two young names.

Under then GM Ken Holland, the Oilers inked veteran Brown to a free agent contract, but in a wild turn of events, they offered him a $3.25M bonus for suiting up in 10 games. After nine, many fans were closely monitoring the situation, as he had yet to tally a goal, and for some reason, the team continued employing him, with the bonus counting towards the salary cap next season, ultimately costing them flexibility this summer. Obviously there are other reasons the Oilers didn't match, such as getting two significant draft picks in return from St. Louis, but given all of the poor Ken Holland decisions over the years, this could ultimately end up being one of the worst.
