Star player of the Edmonton Oilers fires agent before contract negotiations

News broke out earlier today that Oilers star goaltender Stuart Skinner has fired his agent J.P. Barry before contract negotiations were set to begin.

It appears that Skinner's new agent is Ray Petkau, who just posted on his social media that he was going to be representing Skinner. There are two years left on Skinner's contract, after which he will become an unrestricted free agent (UFA), and Skinner is set to receive a massive pay day from the $2.6 million he receives annually now.

Petkau is the agent for many well-known goalies around the NHL. Other star goalies currently being serviced by Petkau are Connor Hellebuyck, Laurent Brossoit, James Reimer, and Eric Comrie. It appears that Petkau is a goaltender connoisseur. J.P. Barry is not a bad agent, as he has some very high profile clients such as David Pastrnak and Matthew Barzal, but the main difference is that he does not represent any goalies.

New GM of the Edmonton Oilers Stan Bowman will have a tough task ahead, as several major players on the team will need new contracts, such as Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and Evan Bouchard to name a few. The team is already right up against the cap, and even slightly over, so Bowman will need to put his thinking cap on and figure out how to clean up this mess that Ken Holland left.

Stuart Skinner's numbers were fairly solid last season, as he won 36 of the 59 games he played, putting up a GAA of 2.62 and a .905 save %. He also carried his team in the playoffs, posting 14 wins, as the Oilers came within one win of capturing the Stanley Cup.
