Back in 2006, the Edmonton Oilers drafted Theo Peckham in the third round, bringing in a defenseman who seemed destined for success. He quickly made his way to the NHL, but just as quickly, his career started to fade. He made in his NHL debut in the 2007-8 season and spent a few seasons shuffling between the AHL and NHL, he managed to play 71 and 54 games for the Oilers between 2010 and 2012. Eventually, he was sent down to the ECHL and then moved to play in European leagues. He had the raw talent to break into the NHL early on, but unfortunately, he couldn't capitalize on the opportunity. Recently, Peckham opened up about some off-ice issues that left him unprepared for the demands of professional hockey. He mentioned that his family life had been a challenge growing up, affecting his ability to maintain the discipline needed for training and his overall lifestyle.

Peckham now recognizes that these factors derailed his career, and he's using his experience to mentor younger players so they can avoid making the same mistakes.

It's always tough to hear about off-ice issues holding back a player from reaching their full potential, especially when they look back and recognize what went wrong. We wish Peckham all the best in his retirement and whatever comes next for him.
