In a surprising statement from an NHL analyst, he believes that Crosby's future with the Penguins will not just continue but will include a playoff run. The Penguins and Sidney Crosby have had to deal with two consecutive seasons with a trip to the playoffs after a run of 16 straight years. The core players like Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang are getting older, like Crosby, and could be slowing down as their hopes for one more cup diminishes. As Crosby enters into his final year under contract with the Penguins, there is still some surprise that an extension has not been reached. While it is still very likely there will be one, that would mean Crosby is committing himself to play for one team for his whole career. A feat that is not commonplace. Because of this, does that mean Sid will not get another shot at the Cup, or even the playoffs? According to Frank Corrado at TSN, it does not. He believes the Penguins and their captain still have another run in them, as soon as next season. In the interview he talks about Crosby's legacy and the Penguins having a chance to make the playoffs. The better legacy move for Sidney Crosby is to be a Penguins for life and follow in the footsteps of his mentor, Mario Lemieux. He goes on to talk about a weak Metro division, which could make an opening for the Penguins to sneak in. And this year specifically, the Metro is a little more wide open. Outside of the Rangers, the Devils need to take a significant step. The Islanders aren't overly exciting. Carolina might take a step back. The Washington Capitals are trying to improve. You can put the Pittsburgh Penguins in that category.

Even if the Penguins do not make the playoffs this next coming season, any season that has Sidney Crosby on the team, Dubas should give the team a chance to make a run rather than rebuild. You will never find another leader like Crosby.

Crosby's legacy is cemented as a Penguin, so signing somewhere else is almost completely out of the question. He is the all-time leader in games played for the Penguins, as well as second all-time in career goals, assists and points, behind Lemieux.
