Alex Ovechkin takes a major shot at the Toronto Maple Leafs ahead of his return to the lineup

This evening Alex Ovechkin will return to the Washington Capitals and before their game against the Maple Leafs he took a major dig at his opponents.

Alex Ovechkin has been out of the Washington Capitals lineup after suffering a broken leg at the end of November.

The injury was a huge blow to the confidence of the Capitals and Ovechkin himself who is still chasing down Wayne Gretzky's all-time goal-scoring record.

This afternoon reports have confirmed that Ovechkin will finally be making his return against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Ahead of his return to the Capitals lineup Ovechkin spoke to the media and decided to take a major shot at the Toronto Maple Leafs during his time with the media.

While speaking to the media Ovechkin was asked about the differences he sees in the Toronto Maple Leafs under new head coach Craig Berube.

In his response Ovechkin was blunt and to the point that the Maple Leafs are the same team even under Craig Berube.

While unintentional this is a huge insult to Berube who has been working hard all season to change the Maple Leafs culture and style of play.

Under former head coach Sheldon Keefe the Maple Leafs were considered a soft team who relied on their skill if like Ovechkin says this is still the same then Berube's impact has been minimal at best.

Tonight the Maple Leafs will have an opportunity to show Ovechkin and the rest of the NHL that they are not the same old team and that Craig Berube has morphed them into a new squad.
