Yesterday, Team Canada suffered one of the biggest upsetting losses in World Juniors history and snubbed Flames prospect Zayne Parekh sure let his feelings known.

Zayne Parekh knows he's making a lot of noise, and doing so loudly. Through 28 games this season with the Ontario Hockey League's Saginaw Spirit, Zayne Parekh has scored 11 goals and 36 points, putting him among the league leaders in several key statistical categories.

A ninth-overall pick by the Calgary Flames in the 2024 NHL Draft, there was a lot expected of Parekh going into the season.

How fluidly he melded smooth skating with elite-level offensive instincts quickly placed him at or near the head of his class in the eyes of many scouts and analysts in Canadian junior hockey.

Parekh led the OHL in scoring amongst defencemen last season, with 33 goals and 96 points, to lead Saginaw to a Memorial Cup championship.

He was named to the OHL First All-Star Team and received the CHL's Defenseman of the Year award, the first draft-eligible player to take home the honor since Chris Pronger in 1993.

With a resume like his, Parekh was a surprising omission from Team Canada's roster for this year's IIHF World Junior Championship.

He kept company with fellow top-10 pick Beckett Sennecke of Anaheim and Ottawa's Carter Yakemchuk, which raised many fans' eyebrows, especially after Canada's shocking 3-2 shootout loss to Latvia on Friday.

For good measure, Parekh liked and retweeted posts about the Latvian upset, with Parekh even retweeting Quinn Hughes and Cale Makar highlight reels to passively show off his dynamic, attacking-defending skillset. It appears top Senators prospect Carter Yakemchuk, who was also snubbed, liked the post as well.

With Matthew Schaefer departing Friday's game with injury, Canada sought reinforcements, and will be using Sawyer Mynio.

Parekh's skill and flair make him an enticing option for a power play that could certainly use the offensive spark, but it appears Canada is looking elsewhere instead.

And with key matches against Germany and the U.S. looming for Canada, the omission of Parekh is still raising some eyebrows.

His confident, high-octane style is a walking embodiment of the best defense being a good offense, leaving many to wonder if he might have been exactly what the team needed.
