John Tavares will once again be a key to the Toronto Maple Leafs success in 2024/25, but with the regular season approaching, he's dealing with an injury issue. The Toronto Maple Leafs are dealing with their fair share of injuries during training camp, and while none are considered serious at this point, it's certainly becoming a headache for the coaching staff. After William Nylander was yet another star injured during their latest pre-season game, John Tavares has now also been added to the list, as the Maple Leafs announced on X that the former captain is day-to-day.

It is reportedly a lower-body injury that's causing Tavares to miss skating on Friday, but like so many others, it's not considered a serious injury that could force him to miss any regular season time.

With Tavares out, the team now have the opportunity to look at one of their younger players in an extended role, and that's reportedly what they will do now, as this allows Easton Cowan a shot on the Maple Leafs top powerplay group.

Given the bumps and bruises that Tavares has faced throughout his lengthy career, this could be the coaching staff just playing it safe on a nagging issue, but through all reports thus far, the veteran and former captain isn't in line to miss any regular season time. With William Nylander set to move to centre once again, it's unclear exactly where Tavares will play in the lineup, so if he misses more time, this will give Craig Berube the chance to try out different players in different roles, but unless something drastic occurs, expect him to be back on the ice in the coming days as a critical regular season nears for Toronto.
