During last night's broadcast, Sportsnet completely disrespected John Tavares when they were discussing who made Team Canada and who didn't. On Wednesday, Sweden, Canada, Finland, and the United States released their rosters for the 4 Nations Face-Off, but the story was the omission of Leafs' star John Tavares from Team Canada. It's set to take place from Feb. 12 to Feb. 20 and it's the first collection of NHL stars from across the League since the 2016 World Cup of Hockey. The biggest name left off was Maple Leafs captain John Tavares, but joining Auston Matthews in the competition are Mitch Marner for Canada, William Nylander for Sweden, and Jani Hakanpaa for Finland. Things weren't helped, either, by Sportsnet and their all-snub Team Canada roster, full of big names such as Steven Stamkos, Evan Bouchard, and Mark Scheifele.

And it was fairly noticeable that Tavares wasn't even on that list; many found the move of him not being there quite surprising. He's on pace for one of his better seasons as a Maple Leaf and still finds himself as an afterthought.

In the meantime, the likes of Connor Bedard, who has been well below average this season lands on the snub list while others like Steven Stamkos, whose Nashville Predators are performing below expectation did make it. This is the fascinating thing considering that, statistically, he has been better than much of that group. Now, he's obviously a second-tier player, but he is an extremely important piece on one of the better teams within the Eastern Conference. With the 4 Nations Face-Off in full sight, the general question being asked by one and all now is whether Team Canada has made a prudent call by leaving Tavares off the roster or not, because that could be their ultimate undoing.
