This evening a new report from NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has provided insight that two Eastern Conference teams have been permitted to talk with J.T. Miller. Within the last week, Vancouver Canucks forward J.T. Miller was nearly traded to the New York Rangers in a blockbuster deal that reportedly fell through. The trade while not completed further cemented Miller's future with the clear path forward being a trade to a new home. A report from ESPN insider Emily Kaplan confirms that while a deal was not completed the Rangers still highly covet Miller.

Since the report of the narrowly missed trade with the Rangers, there have not been too many updates on where things stand and when a trade might be completed. With Miller having a no-trade clause he would have to waive that in order to be moved to a new team which means the team acquiring Miller would likely want to talk with him before making a trade. Tonight a new report from NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has shed some light on the process revealing that the Canucks have already given two teams permission to discuss the future and a potential deal with Miller and his representation.
Two Eastern Conference Teams Given Permission To Speak With J.T. Miller
In a new edition of his 32 Thoughts Podcast Elliotte Friedman gave another major update on Miller's future with the Canucks and beyond. According to Friedman's sources the Canucks are still eager to move on from Miller and have allowed the Carolina Hurricanes and New York Rangers the opportunity to speak with Miller. Friedman also confirms that the New Jersey Devils continue to lurk in the background and while they have not received permission to speak with Miller yet continue to explore the possibility of making a move for the Canucks star. The Hurricanes and Rangers are two of the teams with permission to talk to J.T. Miller ... The Rangers have the cap room to do it, but the Devils would need to perform roster surgery to pull it off, Friedman wrote.

While a trade still seems like it is a ways away from being completed the Canucks allowing other teams to speak with Miller confirms their desire to trade him sooner rather than later. If Miller can find common ground with either the Hurricanes or Rangers in the coming weeks a trade could materialize quickly. Until then Friedman and other insiders will provide the latest reports and as they do we will pass them along to you.
