Today the Winnipeg Jets announced a shocking move confirming that they will be terminating the contract of former second-round pick Daniel Torgersson. The Winnipeg Jets find themselves at the top of the Central Division this season but not all is well as they have made the difficult decision to move on from a former top prospect. Multiple reports this evening have confirmed that the Jets have informed 2020 second-round pick Daniel Torgersson that his contract will be terminated effective immediately.

Torgersson was expected to be a bright young star for the Jets by now when he was drafted in 2020 out of Frolunda HC in the Swedish Hockey League. Sadly that was not the reality of Torgersson's situation as he embarked on his professional hockey career.
Torgersson released by the Winnipeg Jets after struggling to carve out a role
Torgersson came to North America in 2021-22 after a successful season in Sweden's second division HockeyAllsvenskan. In his first full season in the AHL with the Manitoba Moose Torgersson tallied 20 points in 69 games and looked to be a solid player for the future. Unfortunately, that is where the development ended as Torgersson regressed heavily over the next 2 seasons beginning the 2024-25 campaign with just 12 games played in the AHL and 0 points.

Now Torgersson will likely return to Europe and look to get his career back on track in his home country of Sweden. At 22 years old it seems that at least for the moment Torgersson's dream of playing in the NHL is on hold. Once the transaction is official it will be interesting to see where Torgersson's career takes him next.
