A very surprising publication has caused a huge reaction on social networks, and it comes from the very popular media NHL Breakers, which quotes the journalist Michael Russo.

Here is the information that is reported:

"In a player interview conducted by Michael Russo (of The Athletic), which detailed what actually happens during NHL intermissions, players revealed that they still know "a fair amount" of their fellow players who smoke at every intermission.

Russo said that while it was much more common in the past, there are still several players who take smoking breaks between periods. The players interviewed did not reveal who the smokers were." - NHL Breakers

Wow, this is still really amazing, almost hard to believe, but this is coming from a reliable source in the business.

Obviously, players smoking is not catastrophic, it's not criminal at all. But given that hockey players are machines that are tuned to perform, it is surprising to learn that some players use intermissions to smoke.

Is this an issue that the National Hockey League needs to seriously address? Does it affect more older players in the league?

You can imagine that this raises many questions, but the only information we have at this time is the one mentioned above.

My colleague William Nadeau of Habs and NHL has actually put forward an interesting hypothesis that could possibly explain the situation. He mentions that there may have been some misunderstanding between the journalist and the players.

It's possible that some NHL players still smoke cigarettes during intermissions, but by "there are still many players who take breaks to smoke between periods," were they referring to "vaping" instead?

What is surprising about this information, however, is that the new generation of NHL players, who are 30 years old and younger, did not live through the era when smoking was popular and common. Instead, this generation comes from the opposite movement where awareness against smoking is in the majority.

One thing is certain, this revelation by the journalist is causing a lot of reaction.
