A new team shows up in the Timo Meier chase and it is equipped to make an offer

Timo Meier's file is one of the biggest in the NHL right now.

The San Jose Sharks are very interested in getting rid of their talented winger before the trade deadline, and several teams have expressed interest in him.

Of the lot, there were two teams to watch for the potential acquisition of the Swiss forward, the New Jersey Devils and the Carolina Hurricanes.

But now a new surprise team has joined the derby, and it has the ammunition to satisfy the Sharks' demands in this matter.

Indeed, according to the informant Frank Seravalli, the St. Louis Blues, who have just liquidated the forwards Vladimir Tarasenko, Ryan O'Reilly and Noel Acciari, would have recently contacted San Jose for the services of the number 28.

If this decision seems very surprising at first glance, it is not really, because the team's GM, Doug Armstrong, was clear during a recent press conference.

He stated that he does not intend to engage in a lengthy rebuild and that he may be tempted to acquire young, established NHL players to speed up the process.

Let's not forget that both Tarasenko and O'Reilly were past the age of 30, and both were becoming free agents after the season. Now, with three first round picks in the upcoming draft, the Blues have the ability to acquire a big player on the market, like Meier.

With the Blues' disappointing season, a top-10 selection is almost guaranteed with their own first round pick.

If they were to use one or both of the remaining 2023 picks to add the Sharks forward, the rebuild could happen fairly quickly with the high selection of a talented player in the draft, in addition to the acquisition of Meier.

The Sharks and Blues will be ones to watch in the coming days.
