It's really not an easy season for the Calgary Flames. While many felt that this team was possibly one of the top three teams in the Western Association before the campaign began, that is no longer the case. The Flames are fifth in their division and are the first team out of the playoff picture, tied with the Minnesota Wild as the last team in the wildcard, but they have a game in hand on Calgary. Even though the organization lost Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew Tkachuk in the off-season, team GM Brad Treliving did a tremendous job of trying to fix the mess by acquiring Jonathan Huberdeau, Nazem Kadri and MacKenzie Weegar in return. However, locker room morale and player chemistry do not seem to be there this season, and many feel that there is only one person to blame for this problem: head coach Darryl Sutter. The very vocal player agent, Allan Walsh, who has never been known for being outspoken, hit back yesterday on social media, as he took direct aim at the Flames. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result. Also, negativity sucks the joy out of players. - Allan Walsh For those who don't know, Walsh is Huberdeau's agent, so he's very familiar with the problems with the Flames right now. It must be said that his client is really not having a season that lives up to the expectations that were set for him when he signed his massive eight-year, $10.5M per season contract. As Sportsnet's Eric Francis reports, Sutter's role is increasingly being criticized in various forums, as the culture in Calgary under Sutter's reign is being questioned. His intensity makes it difficult for the players to enjoy the wins, as Walsh also testifies by mentioning that the coach's negativity sucks the joy out of the players. The reporter adds that in a season that has been so incredibly beige, it is increasingly difficult for Flames fans to stay engaged. Apparently, the players feel the same way. Will the Flames organization have to replace Sutter behind the bench for the greater good of the team? It's a real possibility, especially since many are starting to question his coaching style.
