Disappointing statement on the exchange market: It's worse than we thought

The trade deadline is fast approaching, but the market remains very quiet for the time being.

We've had three blockbuster trades with Bo Horvat, Vladimir Tarasenko, and most recently Ryan O'Reilly.

However, one specific trade is said to have greatly influenced the trade market, and that is the former Russian forward for the St. Louis Blues.

The journalist Renaud Lavoie mentioned that the low return obtained for the latter could lower the prices throughout the league and disadvantage the sellers.

"All the executives I spoke to told me the same thing: it's very little."

Lavoie was keen to make an example of a potential trade to Montreal involving Jonathan Drouin. Even if he plays good hockey for some time, the club will not be able to get much in return for the Quebecer.

"The Canadiens don't expect a very big return if we are able to trade him. Even if the CH holds back half of his salary, that's $2.5 million the other team will have to take in return. That's still a lot of money when there aren't many teams with space under the salary cap right now."

Should Drouin's availability not draw crowds, Sean Monahan's value might be a bit higher, but still according to Lavoie, the latter would still have to play a few games before March 3 to drive up interest.

However, a recent development mentioned during the evening of last night, has just thrown a cold shower on the expectations of the fans.

In the context where most fans were hoping to see some action on the Habs' side, as part of this important moment of the season, the comments of the TVA Sports journalist are particularly disappointing to hear.
