There is a very strong wind of change in the Montreal Canadiens right now. Against all odds, the club finds itself with a record of four wins and four losses after eight games. Martin St-Louis' team has been fighting hard since the beginning of the season and as we saw yesterday against the Buffalo Sabres, despite dominating the opposition, the CH never gives up. What's nice to see is that the success of this team is almost entirely due to the excellent performance of all the young players in the organization like Kaiden Guhle, Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, Jordan Harris, Arber Xhekaj, etc. Right now, it's mostly the veterans that are disappointing and they make it even more difficult for their GM to make a trade that would involve them. We can talk about Mike Hoffman, Christian Dvorak and Evgeny Dadonov, among others. The expected return of Joel Armia in the near future will impact the forward group, as at the very least one of them will have to leave the lineup because of the 23 contract limit. So, either by a trade or by a return to Laval that involves waivers, a player will have to leave his place. Related to this topic, on BPM Sports, Georges Laraque and Max Truman suggested nothing less to the Habs organization than to submit #63 to waivers.

Still, it would be surprising, with the Russian's start to the season, if any team took a chance on him, especially with his $5.0M contract. He would most likely end up in Laval at the end of this process. At least Kent Hughes would have found a way to free up a contract on his roster and make room for the return of Joel Armia. Nevertheless, the surplus of forwards will remain a problem for the CH, as Michael Pezzetta still hasn't played a game this season and Juraj Slafkovsky will also have to be made available on the regular roster when he returns from injury. Kent Hughes has his work cut out for him, and he'll have to pull another rabbit out of his hat to free up at least one more forward, in addition to Dadonov's potential tender.

Credit: Habs & NHL
