Earlier this afternoon, Habs general manager Kent Hughes caused a bit of a surprise by acquiring forward Chris Tierney from the Florida Panthers, who had been placed on the waivers yesterday.

Following this announcement, many people, including myself, wondered about the sudden motivation to ask for a 28 year old player, when the club has been looking at several young and interesting players throughout the season, like Eeli Tolvanen, Martin Kaut, Tyson Jost, etc.

Is this due to bad news about injured players like Kirby Dach recently? Is it a news that confirms a future transaction of a forward in the next few days?

Let's just say that there were several possible explanations for Tierney's claim, and after much speculation, we have the real reason for this claim.

Basically, it would simply be related to a lack of available forwards in the organization right now:

"Armia is a doubtful case for tomorrow, and the Habs have yet to recall a forward from the Laval Rocket. They're down to 11. There will probably be a recall today or tomorrow." - Eric Engels this morning

From what we can deduce, it is that it will not have been a recall after all, but an acquisition from the waivers.

"With the uncertainty regarding Armia, we were missing a forward (which explains the addition of Tierney)." - Jonathan Bernier, JDM

So it's definitely because of the many injuries in the Habs organization, both in Laval and Montreal, that motivated this claim today by Kent Hughes.

"Chris Tierney is coming to Montreal!

The 28 year old forward will be UFA at the end of the current campaign so will be there to fill a jersey given the large number of injuries.

Heck, the CH has a new UFA in the making to trade at the trade deadline!!!" - Marc-Olivier Beaudoin

"With only 11 healthy forwards, the CH turns to the waivers and claims Chris Tierney.

He has played 13 games in the NHL this season and 20 in the AHL this season.

He's playing on a one-year, $750k contract." - Patrick Friolet, RDS

It will be interesting to see if the Tricolore's newcomer will be in uniform starting tomorrow against the Philadelphia Flyers, remember that the club will play two games in two nights, with another game against the Ottawa Senators on Saturday.
