High Profile Leafs Prospect Gets Vulgar in Training Camp Interview

Leafs prospect Nick Robertson was unafraid of explaining how he feels when asked about his decline within the Leafs system. When asked how he feels now that he is not as high profile of a prospect anymore he had this to say.

Robertson Wants to Prove He Can Still Contribute

Robertson was famously drafted in the second round by the Leafs in 2019 and he came with a lot of hype as an undersized, but skilled offensive forward. Since then, he has been unable to establish himself as a regular in the Leafs lineup, in part due to injuries that have kept him off the ice for much of the last two seasons. He is still just 22 years old though so he should have time to at least make one last push for a full-time spot in the NHL.

The leafs have brought in a number of forwards this season including Tyler Bertuzzi and Ryan Reaves which will create some competition for the young forward so his spot will have to be earned. Making matters more difficult for him is the emergence of another young prospect.

Matthew Knies Passes Robertson on Leafs Depth Chart

There has been much hype around Matthew Knies since he joined the Leafs late last season. The 20-year-old winger got into seven playoff games with the team last year, putting up four points. He was a solid depth scorer on a team that needed more depth scoring. With the way both Knies and Robertson have trended over the past two seasons, it seems that Knies has passed Robertson on the team's depth chart, but with a new general manager that could potentially change.

Regardless, Robertson still has a genuine chance to make the team for opening night if he has an impressive camp. There might be more competition for fewer spots this year though so he will have to play to his full potential.
