As we are currently one week away from the trade deadline, discussions among NHL teams continue to gain momentum, and we are slowly seeing some teams' plans for this important time of the season. This is the case for the Montreal Canadiens, as the informant Frank Seravalli has unveiled the plans of the DG Kent Hughes, by March 3rd. Indeed, the latter reveals that two teams of the league would have openly mentioned to the others that they would be ready to be part of a three-team exchange, to bury part of the salary in his organization. Among these two teams, there are the Vancouver Canucks and the Tricolore.

This means that if a big piece of the trade market is traded, like a Patrick Kane for example, the CH could very well be involved in absorbing part of the player's remaining contract, in return for a contribution. Remember that a team can only hold back the salary of three different players in its organization, so this means that Hughes does not believe he will use this option more than twice among the players in the lineup. Among the CH's players that are likely to be subject to a salary holdback, in the event of a trade, are the two upcoming free agents, Jonathan Drouin and Evgenii Dadonov.
