With less than three weeks to go before the trade deadline, everything still seems very unclear about the Montreal Canadiens' intentions. We know the team will be selling, but with injuries to Sean Monahan and Joel Edmundson, plus the negative values of most of the available veterans like Jonathan Drouin, Evgenii Dadonov and Mike Hoffman, it is impossible to predict what Kent Hughes will do between now and March 3rd. One of the big pieces of the roster that could bring in a lot of money on the trade market is possibly Josh Anderson. The possibility of the Habs trading Anderson is very real, but according to most experts, Kent Hughes should not move his power winger, at least not during the season, unless the GM receives an offer he cannot refuse, including a first round pick in 2023 and a good prospect. That being said, in the case of a trade, a potential destination for CH #17 is undoubtedly the Calgary Flames. This team is flirting with a playoff spot and like the New York Islanders, a trade could provide the necessary boost for the end of the season. In fact, during a column on TSN 690, renowned NHL insider Darren Dreger suggested that the Flames, a team very interested in the services of Josh Anderson, include Quebec forward Jakob Pelletier in a possible trade between the two organizations.

This is not the first time Pelletier's name has been linked to the Habs, as this time last year, another TSN tipster, Craig Button, mentioned that he would not have been surprised if Pelletier had landed in Montreal. According to Dreger, an offer based on Jakob Pelletier and a first round pick would be an excellent starting point to get Kent Hughes to part with Anderson. Quite frankly, if Kent Hughes receives this offer, I strongly hope he says yes and runs away afterwards. In my eyes, that would be a price Calgary would pay dearly, especially in the long run. However, as much as I love the style of play and the potential of the 21 year old Quebecer, if I were the Habs and had to target a specific player for the Flames, it would definitely be young goalie Dustin Wolf. He would automatically become the most promising goaltender in the organization and he could even fight for a spot, starting next year. Getting back to Anderson, will we see a bidding war for him at the trade deadline? For the long term good of the organization, let's hope so, because even though I'm aware that many fans love Josh, a trade involving him, especially in a bidding context, could greatly accelerate the rebuilding process of the Habs.

Credit: HabsetLNH.com
