The Patrick Kane file is very big right now in the NHL. A trade involving him seems more imminent than ever.

All indications are that he will be heading to the New York Rangers and given the complexity of the team's payroll, there are several details to be respected, which does not allow the trade to be officially concluded right away.

In fact, according to TSN's Chris Johnston, Kane will not be traded until at least Wednesday. It could even be that the deal happens at the final 3 p.m. trade deadline.

"While all indications remain positive that a trade sending Patrick Kane to the New York Rangers will finally materialize, the deal itself probably won't be officially executed until Wednesday. It could even happen by the Friday - 3 p.m. deadline, as the salary cap implications are complex. It's progressing every day." - Chris Johnston

So New York needs to wait a little longer, in order to gain the necessary space under the salary cap.

Remember, there will certainly be a third team involved in this huge deal, in order to retain some of Kane's salary. One of the teams to watch for would be the Montreal Canadiens.

We recently learned that Kent Hughes had openly mentioned to other teams in the league that he could use his payroll for this type of transaction. The Tricolore could therefore receive compensation in return.

Let's also remember that, not only is Kane no longer in uniform for the Chicago Blackhawks (to avoid injury), but he would have left his team to return home.

He would have actually played his last game with the Hawks.
