For several months now, there have been rumours that William Nylander could leave the Toronto Maple Leafs. The forward has even been linked to the Habs on more than one occasion because the Maple Leafs won't be able to afford to keep him, while Montreal will have plenty of cash on hand when his contract expires next summer.

Nylander was interviewed by Elliotte Friedman and broke the silence on the rumours about him.

"The most relaxed man in hockey. There's plenty of time left to negotiate his next contract. He says there's nowhere he'd rather be than Toronto. He doesn't understand why everyone spends so much time discussing it."

- Elliotte Friedman on William Nylander's comments

We know that Auston Matthews will ask for a significant raise to sign with Toronto. We're talking about what could be the most lucrative contract in the NHL.

Nylander, for his part, isn't too keen on negotiations either. The forward remained in Sweden during his last negotiations and only signed a six-year pact in early December, which expires next summer.

His next contract will probably be around 10 million a year, and despite a possible significant increase in the salary cap next year, Toronto will have a hard time keeping him.

We'll see how things progress on this front, but one thing's for sure: Nylander's head's nowhere but in Toronto, and even though he's only a five-hour drive from Montreal, he's still a long, long way from the Habs.
