Toronto Maple Leafs center Max Domi dropped the gloves tonight with Oilers forward Mattias Janmark. Notably, Domi's father Tie was at the game, able to see his son duke it out.
Domi makes father proud with fight against Oilers forward
Max is not nearly as a prolific fighter as his dad Tie Domi was. Tie famously leads the Maple Leafs in career fights with 333, although some of those came with other teams. Still though, he recorded over 3500 career penalty minutes in 1020 games. Max is not quite the same type of player, but has proven to be a capable fighter in his own right over the years. He showed that once again with tonight's encounter with Mattias Janmark. Max Domi drops the gloves with his dad Tie in the crowd 👀

Max Domi chucks the gloves with his dad Tie watching in the crowd 👊🏼👀 #NHL | #LeafsForever | #LetsGoOilers

The fight was the lastest evidence that Max Domi is not afraid to stand up for his Maple Leaf teammates. It also marked the 5th of the season for Domi, a new career high. He hasn't even fought more than twice in a season since the 2014-15 campaign when he recorded his previous high of four. Max Domi's five fights this season for the Maple Leafs is a career high.

The fight came in the later half of the 3rd period, when the Oilers were attempting a miraculous five-goal comeback. While the Leafs bent, allowing three goals, they would secure the win. Auston Matthews added the cherry on top with his league-leading 58th goal of the season into the empty net in the dying seconds of the match. Matthews' 48th goal of the season is his first empty net goal of the season #leafsforever

Both the Oilers and Leafs will play tomorrow so it will be a quick turnaround for both clubs. The Leafs will host the Hurricanes while the Oilers will travel to Ottawa for their second half of the back-to-back.
