The Philadelphia Flyers are actively shopping Scott Laughton, and now the Toronto Maple Leafs and Winnipeg Jets are the two frontrunners to acquire him.

Scott Laughton has been a staple of the Philadelphia Flyers for over a decade, yet he's spent more time in trade rumors than almost anyone in the league.

A Flyer since he was the club's 20th overall pick in 2012, Laughton has played 654 NHL games and unofficially ran the team for a year and a half before Sean Couturier was named captain.

But despite years of speculation, he's remained in Philly, in large part because of the respect he commands as a leader on and off the ice. But with the trade deadline looming, is this finally the year he's moved?

For years, the Flyers have put a premium on Laughton, rebuffing offers that didn't meet their demands. But at 30, he's not getting any younger, and his on-ice worth likely isn't improving.

With only one year remaining on his deal at a $3 million cap hit, the time may finally come for Philadelphia to pull the trigger and fully commit to a roster revamp for 2025-26.

Playoff teams are always in the market for a depth forward who kills penalties and brings leadership. Those are the exact qualities that can fetch a strong return at the deadline.

Winnipeg and Toronto are two of several teams vying for Laughton

Two teams coming out as frontrunners for Laughton include the Toronto Maple Leafs and Winnipeg Jets; both are interested in adding a reliable, two-way forward to the bottom six who can log heavy defensive minutes.

The Toronto Maple Leafs believe he could be that missing piece for a deep playoff run, while the Winnipeg Jets yearn for his versatility and playoff experience.

After years of trade talk, finally, the Flyers may pull the trigger. Or is this more smoke with no fire? We will get our final answer in less than four weeks.
