Today the Detroit Red Wings have passed along sad news as former team staff member Sergei Mnatsakanov has passed away.

On X the Detroit Red Wings confirmed that former team masseur Sergei Mnatsakanov has passed away. He was the team masseur for much of the 1990s and 2000s.

Throughout his career with the Detroit Red Wings, Sergei Mnatsakanov saw some good teams play on the ice. The best was likely the 1997 Stanley Cup-winning team he was part of. Sadly after the 1997 Stanley Cup he was involved in a major crash along with other Red Wings players.

Shortly after the Red Wings won the Stanley Cup they attended a golf tournament. Sergei Mnatsakanov along with players Vladimir Konstantinov, and Slava Fetisov were in a limo together and were involved in a major crash where their limo struck a tree.

All three individuals would suffer major injuries but survive the crash. Now almost 3 decades later Sergei Mnatsakanov has passed away. We extend our condolences to his wife Elena Mnatsakanov as well as his children Art and Max.

Sergei Mnatsakanov's family, friends, and teammates will continue to be in our thoughts as they continue to grieve their loss.
