News broke out as to the real reason that Matthew Savoie was traded out of Buffalo to the Oilers, and it was due to very serious recurring injuries.

What quickly looked to have been a steal of a deal for Edmonton after they traded Ryan McLeod and Ty Tullio for Savoie, immediately turned to panic and doubt, as it has been revealed that Buffalo could no longer deal with Savoie's recurring shoulder injuries, and had no choice but to move him.

"He has been injured a lot. He's had shoulder injuries and I wonder if he didn't get hurt last year after his one NHL game, if he maybe they don't trade him," Lysowski on why Sabres dealt Savoie @Sports1440

Savoie is only 20 years old, and having this many injuries at such a young age is very concerning, however it should be noted that when Savoie is healthy, he is one of the better players in the game. In the 283 WHL games he played in, Savoie picked up an unbelievable 263 points, and was scoring more than a point per game in his junior playoff career.

Matthew Savoie's time in the WHL is over.

His career stats:

Regular Season
183 GP 103 G 160 A 263 P

Playoffs
52 GP 28 G 41 A 69 P

Hopefully the Oilers training staff will do a better job than those in Buffalo at ensuring Savoie remains healthy, so that he can put up numbers similar to those he had in the WHL. Should that be the case, the Oilers can happily say they won this trade by a landslide.
