The New York Rangers are absolutely rolling right now with a 6-0 record in the playoffs, but now their coach has address an intriguing subject.

Matt Rempe was an absolute force for the Rangers in the regular season, with many believing his physicality and play style would make him a great advantage for this team in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Unfortunately, it hasn't panned out this way, as game two against the Carolina Hurricanes saw the rookie tally just 4:03 of ice-time in the overtime win.

Now, Peter Laviolette has addressed that with a very fair analysis of his thinking as a coach behind the bench, and why it's not an intentional move with Rempe;

I just feel like that happens all the time in playoffs when you get down to it. When you're trailing in the third period, regardless of minutes, you have to win that game. As I was running the game last night I was thinking about Mika coming off. Wennberg's line went out for 30 seconds, but then there was an offensive zone faceoff so I put Mika back out there. I think it's different too, depending on the score of the game. When you're up 4-0 you can roll the bench, but when you're chasing that game and every decision matters, I'm doing what I think is right.

With such a big frame and absolutely no fear, there's no doubting that Rempe will play a part for the Rangers in these playoffs, but given how tight the first two games in this series have been, there's just not been the opportunity to get him consistent minutes. In game one, Rempe took a penalty that saw his reaction go viral once he was in the box, and while it was a fun moment, it shows just why he may not be ready for those big minutes yet, as he is consistently in the penalty box.

Ultimately, he's got plenty of time to grow and learn more about his role, so for now, it's not a personal choice from Laviolette, but more the circumstances of the game that have kept Rempe on the bench.
