A new report has surfaced today that has confirmed Nick Robertson's thoughts on his future with the Toronto Maple Leafs after initially requesting a trade. For much of this summer, the Toronto Maple Leafs have been working through the Nick Robertson saga. Reports began flooding in during free agency that Nick Robertson was refusing to sign an extension with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Despite taking this stance Nick Robertson remains a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs. With the season approaching fans and media have been curious about what the path forward is for the Maple Leafs and Nick Robertson. Today NHL insider Chris Johnston was able to provide another update on the situation.
Chris Johnston confirms Nick Robertson still wants to be moved by the Maple Leafs
In a new piece by David Alter of The Hockey News NHL insider Chris Johnston is quoted speaking about Nick Robertson. According to Chris Johnston's sources, there is a place for Nick Robertson in the Toronto Maple Leafs top six. Despite this development, Nick Robertson is still not interested in returning. I think, obviously, at this stage of the summer, the Leafs are still working through what happens with Nick Robertson, but there's a pretty clear path for him to be part of the mix at left wing, to potentially have a role that exceeds what he's had in the past. But at this stage, Nick Robertson doesn't seem inclined to sign in Toronto and is sticking to the idea that he'd like to play somewhere else. And so I think they have to kind of sort that out first or as part of this.

With this new bit of information it seems a trade involving Nick Robertson is more likely than ever. The original theory was if a path to playing time was clear Nick Robertson would return. However, with that now not being the case a trade is the only avenue that the Toronto Maple Leafs likely have left. Last season Nick Robertson played 56 games in the NHL which was his first real taste of full-time action. In those games, he finished with 27 total points which is far lower than many had hoped. At just 22 years old Nick Robertson has plenty of potential left in him but he could be too big of a risk for the Toronto Maple Leafs to take. As this situation continues to develop we will provide all the latest details on Nick Robertson's NHL future and the Toronto Maple Leafs plan with him.
