The Florida Panthers lost their key forward Carter Verharghe to a week-to-week upper-body injury in their tough 6-4 defeat at the hands of the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday night.

While they clinched their playoff spot last week, the Panthers shared brutal injury news and won only one of their last five games. Indeed, yesterday, the Montreal Canadiens beat Florida 5-3, 24 hours after their game in Toronto.

With less than two weeks before the end of the season, Verhaeghe could miss the rest of the regular schedule. However, head coach Paul Maurice told many times that he'll be available and ready for the start of the playoffs.

"Carter Verhaeghe (upper body) is week to week, per Maurice.

They don't expect him to miss any playoff games, but he might not be ready until Game 1."

After Verhaeghe, the Panthers lose Ekblad in tough loss against the Montreal Canadiens

The Panthers took on the Canadiens in Montreal without Sergei Bobrovsky, Carter Verhaeghe, and Matthew Tkachuk, who's sick. Nick Cousins, Kyle Okposo, Steven Lorentz and Anthony Stolarz joined the lineup.

The Habs put on a great team effort and ended up winning 5-3. The Panthers not only lost the game, but also Aaron Ekblad, who had to leave after the first period of the game, following a confrontation with Juraj Slafkosvky.

Further updates on Tkachuk, Verhaeghe and Ekblad are expected soon. Stay tuned for more.
