Against all odds, despite serious injuries to key players like Sean Couturier, Ryan Ellis and now James Van Riemsdyk, the Philadelphia Flyers are off to a great start with a 5-2-1 record after eight games.

It must be said that the Flyers hired the colorful head coach John Tortorella this summer for one reason, to get this team winning this season. In the short term, the result has been the right one, as his team is in third place in the Eastern Conference.

However, if Philly wants to keep the momentum going, they'll need to add some new pieces to help the lineup very quickly, as it's hard to believe that in the long run, this lineup can hold the fort. Having a second trio of Noah Cates, Scott Laughton and Owen Tippett could hurt the Flyers.

With that in mind, as Marco D'Amico of Montreal Hockey Now reported, there would be three options that could make sense for the Flyers in the short and long term. One of those options was Canadiens center Christian Dvorak.

Since last year, even though Dvorak has been providing some very good hockey from 200 feet of ice for his team, trade rumors have been swirling since he doesn't seem to be in the organization's long term plans. Also, with the acquisition of Sean Monahan, who is playing some very big hockey, the Habs are in a position where they may consider trading Christian Dvorak sooner rather than later.

"While he's been slow to produce offensively so far this season, Dvorak continues to excel in two areas where the Flyers are struggling: his short-handed play and faceoffs. Currently, the Flyers are 30th in the NHL in the faceoff circle with an average of about 42%, while Dvorak continues to be reliable with a 56.3% success rate so far this season.

Dvorak, plays a crucial role in the Habs' power play, a defensive-minded group of players that has recently received high praise from head coach Martin St. Louis.

That's exactly what he could bring to this Flyers team if the price is right." - Marco D'Amico

Is it possible that Dvorak could fill several of the Flyers' needs in the short to medium term? Certainly.

There's certainly a fit between the two organizations to enter into negotiations, and it's quite possible that if the price Philadelphia is offering is worth it, Kent Hughes won't hesitate to make a deal for his center, especially since he'll be able to free up some payroll at the same time.
