There are many trade rumors between the Montreal Canadiens and the Edmonton Oilers. With two weeks to go before the deadline, it's only natural that things are getting even more heated behind the scenes in the NHL.

Among the names of players that come up the most between the two organizations are those of Jesse Puljujarvi and Joel Edmundson.

The situation is still unclear regarding the health of the CH number 44. However, despite his injury, the veteran defenseman is still attracting interest from some of the league's teams right now.

In this regard, in the last few hours, the reputable David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period has gathered the inside information that has obtained and he has put forward a concrete transaction proposal.

Here is Pagnotta's proposal in conjunction with his information:

(They're really targeting) a Joel Edmundson, who makes $3.5 million a season.

The Oilers would send Jesse Puljujarvi and a 2023 first-round pick to the Montreal Canadiens, and the CH would withhold the $500,000 needed (from Edmundson's contract) to make this trade work.

The explanation that is given is that the Oilers would only have a budget of $3M to acquire a defenseman, and they are desperate to add one to their defensive brigade, by March 3.

Some rumors are still talking about Erik Karlsson, but the price paid, in addition to the payroll complications related to his huge contract, makes it difficult to make a deal.

There is also Vladislav Gavrikov of the Blue Jackets as a potential target, but Columbus' asking price is very big. They are asking for a 1st round pick, a 3rd round pick and another late round pick. In addition, the latter becomes an unrestricted free agent and has expressed his desire to test the market this summer.

Edmundson is a logical target for them, not to mention that the Oilers and CH made a similar trade together last year, with Brett Kulak. Holland doesn't like rental players and Kulak has one year left on his contract for next year.

In addition, a trade with Montreal would allow the Oilers to finally get rid of Puljujarvi's contract which has been a drag on the organization right now.

The result would be this:

IN MONTREAL -

2023 1st round pick
Jesse Puljujarvi

TO EDMONTON -

Joel Edmundson (500k withheld)

Would you make this trade if you were the Habs?
