We just got some very interesting information from Cole Caufield's agent, Pat Brisson, who finally broke the silence on two hot issues involving the young CH star, his injury and his contract extension. Sportsnet's Eric Engels spoke with him and here's what he had to say on the subject: <q>I just spoke to Cole Caufield's agent, Pat Brisson, who told me that the decision to take him out of action now ensures that he'll be 100% ready for the start of next training camp. As for the next contract discussions, he says they will continue. We're okay. - Eric Engels</q> That's reassuring nonetheless, the purpose of doing the medical procedure now is in order for him to be ready for the start of next season. So we can better understand the point of having him miss the rest of the campaign to make sure we see #22 in top shape for next year. It is certain that his absence will hurt a lot, he is possibly the worst possible player, along with his teammate Nick Suzuki, that the CH could lose for the rest of the schedule. At least we can take solace in the fact that this season was doomed to fail anyway. Regarding Cole's extension, Brisson mentioned that discussions would continue, which is a very good thing. Given that his client is injured for the season, my gut tells me that it's possible that a contract extension could happen much sooner than expected, as Caufield can no longer boost his value by breaking the 40+ goal plateau.
