Chemistry between players is sometimes hard to explain in the NHL. For example, without Nicklas Backstrom by his side all these years, would Alexander Ovechkin have scored as many goals? It's hard to say, but these two have been the rainmakers in Washington for over 10 years. The chemistry between Cole Caufield and Nick Suzuki is simply remarkable. The two young players have been playing together for barely a year and it feels like 10 years. Martin St-Louis explains this phenomenon in his own way and it is very interesting: Cole has a shooter mentality and Nick has a passer mentality. Sometimes you put two players together and there aren't enough pucks on the ice. In the case of Cole and Nick, one puck is enough because they understand each other's game perfectly. - Martin St. Louis

It's true that the two youngsters find each other beautifully on the ice. Often Suzuki will make an extra fake before passing, but he knows exactly where Caufield is and the fake is used to create more space for him. In the case of number 22, he knows the pass is coming and he stays in place, something not many players could do in these circumstances. We really have an elite duo with these two. Hopefully Kent Hughes will be able to get Caufield signed long term and see some good hockey from them for many years to come.
