With the trade deadline fast approaching, the Habs have a number of options to build the organization's future in the short and long term.

One of the issues to watch is the goaltending situation. The Habs will have some important decisions to make in the coming weeks, one of which specifically concerns Cayden Primeau.

The 23-year-old goaltender is going through his last year in the contract, which means that next year, if the Canadiens' goaltending situation remains the same, the organization could very well lose him to the waivers at the beginning of next season, similar to what the CH did to the Panthers when they claimed Samuel Montembeault last year.

In connection with this situation, former NHL goaltending coach Stephane Waite made a polarizing statement about the Habs' goaltenders. On the set of l'Antichambre yesterday, he mentioned that he would trade veteran Jake Allen immediately.

"I'm trading him! It's time to try Cayden Primeau before we lose him to the waivers next year!" - Stephane Waite

He elaborates on his idea by adding that now is a good time to trade the 32-year-old netminder, as his value could pay off in a big way, as well as freeing up nearly $4.0M on the payroll for the next two seasons.

Waite concludes with this:

"I'm not saying he's ready and I'm not saying he's going to replace Jake Allen, but it's time to give Cayden Primeau a good try. At 23 years old, it's time to see what he can do, because there are a lot of them that at 23 years old they haven't had a chance, that are released to the waivers and are starting National League goalies elsewhere." - Stephane Waite

Waite's point of view is interesting, because it's true that between Allen and Primeau, Primeau has the potential to keep the net for the Habs the longest.

Also, with the emergence of Montembeault, I feel more confident in letting Allen go, to test the young goalie's caliber for the remaining portion of the schedule. In the worst case scenario, there is always the possibility of acquiring another goaltender during the summer, if the result is not conclusive.

What do you think? Would you trade Allen now to take advantage of his value and make room for Cayden Primeau?
