NHL referee, Kelly Sutherland made a mistake after calling a goal off on what seemed to most fans a clear goal in a win or be eliminated game for both teams. With 11:43 to go in the first period Philadelphia Flyers forward, Joel Farabee, rips a shot blocker side on Charlie Lindgren, of the Washington Capitals. This results in the puck to fly into the air and nobody seems to notice the puck way above them. As a result of this, the play is blown dead, and then the puck comes back down to the play area and hits Joel Farabee to where it finds its final stop in the back of the net.

The goal did not count and was very unpopular amongst NHL fans everywhere. This triggered some to wonder if referees should be held accountable for botched calls. There has also been some interesting calls coming from the department of player safety that have made people question the integrity or the validity of certain calls that are made by the NHL. The NHL did release a statement as to why the goal did not count but they did not release any information on potential disciplinary action that is being took against the referee crew. Here is the statement from the NHL Public Relations page on X:

Sourced from: Blade of Steel - Referee makes the wrong call, the NHL continues to defend officials
